Crisis Communications and Media Relations Seminar set for June 30
Kingston, June 7, 2006.


Several Professionals will address a “Crisis Communications and Media Relations Seminar” set for the Alhambra Inn, June 30 beginning at 9am. The seminar which is being staged by Illuminarte Communications ltd is aimed primarily at business executives, corporate communications, public relations and public affairs professionals.
According to Illuminarte’s Director, Professor Celia Christie the seminar seeks “primarily to equip participants with crisis communication planning tools and enhance their media relations abilities using a multi-disciplinary approach. Case studies and best practices will be a major feature of the programme.”
Leading the bank of experts will be Juan Carlos Espinola, United Nations Representative and United Nations Development Programme Representative for Jamaica who will deliver the keynote opening address. Earl Jarrett, General Manager of the Jamaica National Building Society and Vice President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica will present the business imperative for crisis communication planning. The Opening Ceremony will also feature a presentation by Desmond Richards, President of the Press Association of Jamaica.

Crisis Media Relations Strategies will be handled by a panel led by Mark Thomas, President of the Public Relations Society of Jamaica who will deal with “Managing Corporate Reputation and Image under Fire,” Milton Walker, Managing Editor of CVM TV who will address “Dealing with the Media in a Crisis” and Erica Allen noted media trainer and broadcaster who will give valuable insights on “Media Interview Techniques.”
A key highlight of the programme will be “The Simulation” which will be given by Captain Omar Parkins, President of Jamaica Airline Pilots’ Association. He will give a bird’s eye view of “Terror in the Skies,” and share his trade’s secrets regarding the benefits of this activity.

“Crisis is an everyday occurrence in our personal and varied professional lives. Dealt with in the right way crises become stepping stones for opportunities for growth if handled properly. Select participants will get the opportunity to go on the firing line and face the music to see how much they have learnt in this exciting session,” said Christie.

The Seminar will also cover topics such as “Corporate Risk Management” to be addressed by Judith Keane, Assistant General Manager of NEM and Shereen Jones, Managing Director of Management Control Systems who will approach the topic from a technological perspective.

Major companies that have been in the spotlight recently will share their experiences through case studies namely JPS, WINDALCO and ALPART. This will be led by Winsome Callum, Head of Corporate Communication, Marcia Tai Chun, Director of Human Resources and Lance Neita, Public Relations Manager respectively. The seminar is also part sponsored by WINDALCO, JPS and Colgate.
“Crisis Communications Planning Essentials” -Building your Communications Tool Kit and Developing a Crisis Communications Plan will be presented by Illuminarte’s Managing Director, Alison Christie Binger.
